If you don’t know Chinese Indy bands then this is the one you should know, although they now cast themselves as old men of the scene. Carsick Cars came out of the explosive new scene that grew quickly in Beijing, playing at new independent venues that sprang up there in 00’s. Carsick Cars were one of the first gen bands that really changed how locals and foreigners thought Chinese music could go. Their energy and unique sounds brought No Wave superstar Thurston Moore to speculate that mainland China was making the best music – a significant claim but one that is well justified.
With a unique story to tell and an almost naive lack of history to fill their heads, these bands really were moving and shaking.
